Everything you need to know about ordering a bespoke piece.
Last updated: June 2026
A commission is a bespoke, made-to-order piece created specifically for you. This might involve using paper or documents you supply, sourcing specific vintage materials on your behalf, or creating a piece to a particular size, colour scheme or theme. Every commission is unique.
If you are supplying paper, documents, sheet music, maps or other materials for us to work with, please note the following: We will treat your materials with the greatest possible care. However, we cannot accept liability for damage to original documents during the creative process. Working with fragile, aged paper carries inherent risk. We will always discuss this with you before proceeding and will advise if we have concerns about the condition of materials supplied. Please send materials by tracked post. We recommend insuring items of significant value. We cannot accept responsibility for items lost in transit to us.
Commission timescales vary depending on complexity, the availability of materials, and our current workload. We will give you an estimated completion date at the quotation stage and will keep you informed of progress. If there is an unexpected delay, we will contact you promptly. We cannot guarantee completion by a specific date unless this has been explicitly agreed in writing at the quotation stage. If you have a deadline (for example, a birthday or anniversary), please tell us at the outset and we will do our best to accommodate it.
We will send you photographs of the completed piece for approval before dispatch. If you are not happy with the piece, please tell us clearly what the issue is. We will do our best to resolve it, but please note that minor variations in colour, texture and finish are inherent in handmade work and are not grounds for rejection. Changes requested after work has begun may incur additional charges. Significant changes to the original brief may require a revised quotation.
You may cancel a commission at any time before work begins, in which case your deposit will be refunded in full. Once work has begun, the deposit is non-refundable. If you cancel after the piece has been completed, the full balance remains due. Bespoke commissions are excluded from the standard 14-day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, as they are personalised goods made to your specification.
We retain the right to photograph completed commissions for use in our portfolio, website and social media, unless you specifically request otherwise at the time of ordering. We will never identify you personally without your permission.
If you have any questions about commissions, please contact us at [email protected] or call 07887 428355. We love talking about our work and are always happy to discuss ideas.
